There are journeys that take you somewhere new, and there are journeys that remain with you long after you return home.
A safari to Kenya's Masai Mara belongs to the latter.
From the moment the aircraft leaves Nairobi and the city slowly disappears beneath you, the landscape begins to change. Roads give way to open country, settlements become scattered, and eventually the immense plains of the Mara appear below.
This is the inspiration behind our 5-Day Masai Mara Safari — a carefully curated fly-in journey combining a comfortable first night in Nairobi with three nights in the heart of the Masai Mara.
Your Safari Begins in Nairobi
Your journey begins on arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where you are welcomed and transferred to House of Waine Nairobi for your first night. It is an opportunity to rest after your international journey and prepare for the adventure ahead. The following morning, after breakfast, you are transferred to Nairobi Wilson Airport, the gateway to Kenya’s celebrated safari destinations. And from here, Africa begins to unfold.
Fly from Nairobi into the Masai Mara
Instead of spending hours travelling by road, you take a scheduled flight from Nairobi Wilson Airport to Musiara Airstrip in the Masai Mara. From the aircraft window, Kenya reveals itself from an entirely different perspective: cultivated landscapes slowly surrender to wilderness, rivers trace their paths across the earth, and the great savannah stretches towards the horizon. Then comes the landing at Musiara. There are no busy airport terminals here. You step from the aircraft into the wilderness, where your safari vehicle and guide await. Welcome to the Masai Mara.
Three Nights at Governors' Camp
For the next three nights, your home is Governors’ Camp, set in one of the Masai Mara’s remarkable wildlife areas. Here, safari life follows the rhythm of the wilderness. Mornings begin with the sounds of the bush. Days are spent searching the plains for lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, cheetahs and countless other species. Evenings invite you back to camp to relax, dine and share stories of what the Mara revealed that day.
Your three-night stay includes full-board accommodation with three meals per person per night, together with soft drinks, beers, house wines and non-premium spirits. Laundry is included, together with applicable VAT. The intention is simple: once you arrive in the Mara, much of the practical detail has already been taken care of, allowing you to concentrate on the experience itself.
Game Drives Across the Legendary Masai Mara
The safari includes two or three excursions each day, depending on guest preferences and safari arrangements, in custom-built 4WD safari vehicles. Every game drive is different. One morning may begin with a pride of lions resting in the golden grass after a night of hunting. Later, elephants may appear silently from the woodland, calves protected between enormous adults. A cheetah may stand upon a termite mound surveying the plains.
Giraffes move elegantly across the horizon. And somewhere in the distance, vultures circling above the savannah may tell your guide that another story is beginning to unfold. During the Great Migration season, the Mara becomes the stage for one of nature’s greatest spectacles as immense herds of wildebeest and zebra move through the ecosystem. But the Masai Mara is not simply a seasonal destination. Its resident wildlife makes it extraordinary throughout the year.
The Mara Beyond Wildlife
A meaningful safari can also reveal the people and conservation efforts that make this landscape unique. Guests who wish to explore beyond traditional game viewing may have opportunities to visit local Maasai villages (Manyattas), local schools, and community or conservation projects supported by the camp. A Manyatta experience provides an introduction to aspects of Maasai culture, traditions and community life. Visits should be approached with curiosity and respect—the Mara is not only a wildlife destination but also a living cultural landscape and home to communities whose relationship with this environment stretches across generations.
Please note: Manyatta entrance fees are not included in the safari rate.
The Beauty of Musiara
One of the advantages of this itinerary is the simplicity of the air-transfer arrangements. Your return flights operate between Nairobi Wilson Airport and Musiara Airstrip, and your Mara airstrip transfers are included. This means the transition from aircraft to safari can be remarkably seamless. You can arrive at the airstrip and, before long, find yourself travelling through the same landscape inhabited by elephants, giraffes, antelope and predators. In the Mara, even a transfer can become a game-viewing experience.
A Day in the Masai Mara
Imagine waking while the wilderness is still cool and quiet. Coffee or tea arrives as the first light begins to colour the horizon. Soon, your 4WD leaves camp. The morning belongs to the animals. Predators may still be active after the night. Hippos begin returning to the water. Herds move across the plains while the rising sun turns the grass gold. Later, return to camp for breakfast and time to relax.
Lunch follows, and as the afternoon heat begins to soften, the Mara calls again. Your evening game drive may end beneath an enormous African sky before you return to camp for dinner, a glass of wine and another night surrounded by the sounds of the wilderness. Tomorrow, the story begins again—but never in quite the same way.
The most meaningful description of a Safari Herd Holidays journey often comes from the travellers themselves.
Following a Masai Mara journey in July 2026, Sharath N described the experience:
His words capture something we consider just as important as the safari itself: being present and responsive throughout our guests’ journey.
Another July 2026 guest, Aravind Srinivas, experienced an unexpected challenge when Kenya Airways delayed their luggage.
Rather than allowing the disruption to define their holiday, our team continued coordinating with the airport, made multiple trips in connection with the delayed bags and arranged for the luggage to reach the guests in the Masai Mara.
Aravind later described Safari Herd Holidays as helpful, professional and flexible, and particularly appreciated the support surrounding the delayed luggage and changes to their final-day Nairobi arrangements.
These experiences represent the kind of safari service we believe in: the journey matters just as much when something unexpected happens as when everything goes according to plan.

Come and Find Your Own Mara Story
Perhaps your Masai Mara memory will be the first lion you see at sunrise.
Perhaps it will be elephants crossing silently in front of your vehicle, the seemingly endless plains beneath your aircraft as you approach Musiara, or an evening at Governors’ Camp when the sounds of the African night replace the noise of everyday life.
No two travellers return with exactly the same story.
That is part of the magic.
At Safari Herd Holidays, we design the journey around the people travelling it—combining the wilderness of Kenya with thoughtful planning, dependable local support and the freedom to experience Africa at its natural rhythm.
